20th Century Churches

High Wycombe, Terriers – St. Francis of Assisi

The church was completed in 1930 to a design by Giles Gilbert Scott. The Reverend Francis Field and his wife Henrietta raised the funds to build the church. The style is best described as modern Gothic with an early Christian flavour. The church has many unique features but the overall effect is one of monumental simplicity.

Milton Keynes – Church of Christ the Cornerstone

The city centre parish was created in 1979. The church itself was completed in 1991. The basic design is a circular auditorium lit by a huge dome and surrounded on four sides by series of functional rooms. Four triangular shaped courtyards provide light within the complex. The flexible auditorium provides seating for 600 people.
